ASK IKAIKA R.
#1
If there was a way to get 5th District County Council candidate Ilaika Rodenhust to answer questions, what would you ask him?  Here's my list:
Does your engineering degree give you the authority to review, improve, and stamp the existing Puna Emergency Evacuation Plans so they can be submitted to the Windward Planning Commission?  If so, would you do it for a reasonable fee?
Now that the federal courts have ruled that local municipalities can control their airspace, will you introduce County legislation to prevent the abuse of our skies by tour helicopters?
Is there a black ops sect of Hawaiian separatists colonizing the area between where Bo allegedly killed Britney and the Kaimu Spaceport?
Agriculture involves backbreaking labor, long hard hours, handling toxic chemicals, and rarely offers more than minimal profits.  Slugs, snails, fire ants, fungi, viruses, white flies, fruit flies, mold, aphids, and every obnoxious weed imaginable have infiltrated nearly all our local agricultural fields.  Is sustainable food production in Puna still a reasonable goal?  Or, looking at this from another angle, does the Career Day booth promoting papaya field work get much interest at Pahoa High School?
Is it possible for a reasonable Hawaiian to explain to the TMC no-no-no-niks that sharing is an important virtue that most of us learned in elementary school?
Instead of locking up all our oceanfront accesses most of the day, why not just get rid of all the ice-heads who -- supposedly -- will trash the coast and strike fear into our local Vice Squad unless another study is done by the Kilauea Recovery Task Force?
Are you qualified to draw and stamp blueprints for a sidewalk between the Post Office and downtown Pahoa?  If so, would you please do it even if you aren't elected?
When the DLNR dredges the boat ramp at Isaac Hale Beach Park without even an Environmental Assessment, legal overland access to the popular new Pohoiki beaches will be cut off.  Will the County Aquatics Division have the foresight to remove the lifeguard stands before they become obsolete?  Will fisherman towing in their boats have to wait until the security guard unlocks the gate at nine o'clock every morning like the rest of us?  Given the regional subsidence caused by the weight of the recent lava flow, have plans been made to move the Luka Hale Trust house before it gets washed off its foundation by the first overhead south swell after the parting of the sands?  And aren't these the kinds of questions an EA is supposed to answer?
Will you be the County Councilmember to get a public walkway to the black sand beach at Kehena?
Here's a summary of the Lower Puna representatives we've had since Moses walked the earth:
Emily N. -- Lovely lady who threw temper tantrums in Council meetings.
Jen R. -- Abdicated to go live under a coconut tree.
Fred B. -- Great Peewee Football coach.  And....I'm sure there was something else.
Zendo Kern -- The mysterious disappearing lover who's now making a killing on permit consulting.  No shame....
Matty K-K -- Just look at all those accomplishments!
Is it possible for you to be even more incompetent?

oooohhhhh...such valid questions!  You really have been paying attention.  But why only To ikaika I’d like to ask just about everybody in local government these same things...
