anywhere in Puna to buy lumber
#11
I needed a single 2x4 to complete a project and getting it in my 'hood actually saved me money

As a general rule, Orchidland (or Keaau Ace) really are cheaper for the first 2-3 things... it takes some getting used to; helps to think in terms of "how much is a gallon of gas".

Not to mention the cost of your time, what is your time worth?

When remodeling I made a deal with my carpenter: if any materials were needed he would call it in and I would drive to get it. I saw no reason to pay him top dollar to sit in traffic (no skills needed) when I could take my unskilled self to Hilo to get the supplies. The funny thing is once we put that system in place the amount of "errands" dwindled to almost nothing.
