we recently purchased ag land with an unpermitted home.
how hard is it to get permitted.
we know there will need to be some things fixed but don't know about how to approach permit people to get er done....
contractors suggestions welcomed.

i did speak with a contractor he told me the things i needed to fix but he was too busy to work on my project.

Then you find another contractor, especially if licensed work is required (plumbing, electrical).
Depending on your situation, not bothering with permits may be an option.

Don't contact the county until you are sure of the scope and cost of the work. Double that estimate to account for work delays and arbitrary additional requirements. Even then, you are taking a chance the inspector might say "no can".

Double that estimate
I use the formula "3x estimated cost, 5x estimated time", that way if you manage to come in under the cost and/or sooner than the time, you're celebrating instead of cursing your project.

We did this back in 2012-2014. It didn't cost an arm and a leg, but more than I thought initially. Both wiring and plumbing had to be completely re-done and expect that no matter if they are already done to code. It depends a lot on how close to code the initial construction was. In our case, it was pretty good, but we still needed to do things like add sheer walls to the post & pier and put railings on the lanai. SPP cost a pretty penny, but electrical and plumbing contractors were reasonable imho.

Living in a home that is safe for your family is obviously your prime concern, but trying to get a permit from the county for your home often has nothing to do with the safety of your family.
Contacting the county about permitting your home can open a can of worms that you might regret. Like others have said, find a contractor that you trust and have them take a look at the home's waste, electric and plumbing systems. Also have them look a the structural integrity of the home. You probably have termites.

thanks all. we have had a contractor come and check out everything and i have a big list of changes but he wasn't really interested in the job.
i am definitely waiting to contact permits until i am ready to do something with a contractor in tow to work that park out.
my family is safe inside the house it is not falling down was just VERY DIRTY when we got here.
there is a little foundation issues but nothing immediate as of now.
we will need a septic as we have a cesspool now ... maybe grandfathered but aware of the update ...
did have a termite inspection a year ago and we were in the clear but i hear everyone has to tent every 5 years..
