Talks of lava Ferris wheel off the highway
#1
LoL! I am not kidding here. Just saw it on KITV4.

I can picture it now: Tourists all lined up in that rainy gloom plume and donning their ww2 style gas masks as they pay 100$+ to ride the lava wheel.

Where? I dunno maybe "the Shire", where the limo is parked?

I’m sure E K Fernandez would be glad to lease out a Ferris wheel during the off season.

Here are some assorted gas mask designs, ranging from the whimsical to the stylish to the absurd:

I have to wonder about the corrosive effect of the fumes on the metal of the wheel itself. Fernandez might do well to stay away, but the article says, "The County knows of the demand for viewing as visitors continue to try to get in, but it is still working on plans." And they will be ad infinitum, as well as spending lots of money on studies.

"The talk among some residents in Pahoa town is to place a ferris wheel near the flow at Highway 132."

Slow news day.

It seems Hawaiian airlines are giving free aerial views of the lava flow (as long as you've paid for your ticket to Oahu). I came back this evening and saw a Hawaiian airline jet flying just off the coast of HPP at around 2000 feet towards lower Puna and it turned back a few minutes later to give everyone else a view. Checked it on flightaware.com and it seems they do this if they can take off from Hilo early so as not to delay the landing in Honolulu. I know someone else mentioned this some weeks ago but can't find the post.

Good on them, I'm sure the passengers appreciate it. Flight HA 141 if anyone wants to check it for themselves.

My wife flew to Honolulu last week and got the lava viewing tour on HA, passengers were pretty excited.

What would we call the lava viewing Ferris Wheel? Huli Huli?

I think it’s a great idea as long as it doesn’t impose on residents nearby.

They are going to call it Bueller's Bomb and the carnie who straps you into the ride is wearing a latex Mathew Broderick mask. The cars on the Ferris Bueller's Bomb Wheel will all be miniature 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Californias. Oh yeah. One stoned carnie missed a staff meeting and for some reason shows up in a Tom Selleck mask, but it's Pahoa so it still works.

Let's get FEMA and the SBA to pay for this item. Stick it on top of the levee and charge a hundred bucks a ride.

Yeah, because County sure as hell won't.

I'd be more interested in having a sky tram installed. Say from 130 to somewhere east of pohoiki.
