Hello,
After we close on our new house, want to switch from electric to solar hot water. Recommendations? Installers? Experiences? Please share.
Have solar hot water in our rental and love it. Don't want to go back.

I just had a system installed by Drainpipe yesterday. They came highly recommended, did everything on time, and carefully explained all the rebates and tax credits to insure that I got full advantage of them. After the installation, they spent some time showing me all the features of the system and reviewing the warranty. It was a positive experience from start to finish. When are you closing? If you can get an installation scheduled for June, there's a temporary additional $500 rebate.

I second Drainpipe. They are now our plumbers of choice. Very professional.

So I imagine they do UV installs to?
Yeah, heard about the temporary 500 extra credit but the bank won't close until July.

Our solar hot water system was $6500, the UV was worked into our house plumbing bid, so don't know the breakdown on it.

Mine was $5800 for just the solar water, but after rebates and tax credits, my net cost will be around $1700. I checked my tax situation, and I will qualify for the maximum tax credit. It is possible for some retirees and low-income households to owe less tax than the credits, and their net cost would be more.

I think we got the bigger tank and maybe larger sized panels? We are a family of four so I remember I wanted to make sure we didn't run out of water.

In the interest of closing this thread, we did choose drainpipe. They showed up when they said that they would, and they installed the system in one day. Our breaker has been off since then and we've never run out of, or low on, hot water. They installed our UV water sterilization system the same day and since then we've drank catchment water with no ill effects (disclaimer: our primary drinking water is still county water that we bring in from the free spigots in 5 gallon dispensers because purified catchment water is essentially distilled water devoid of any minerals and excessive consumption may have long term health problems. Our automatic ice maker uses the catchment water and I frequently drink catchment water because our fridge dispenses cold filtered water and it tastes good. End of disclaimer.)
