Yes, definitely. Small unpermitted additions are usually not a big issue with insurance but large unpermitted additions or a completely unpermitted place has big insurance issues.

Speaking of non-permitted building insurance; I found an add on craigslist that says

"insurance for lava zone 1, 2, unpermitted (Big Island)

Are you thinking of purchasing a property in lava zones 1 and 2...or have an unpermitted dwelling? Give me a call and let me help you shop around.

I also specialize in helping people lower their hurricane insurance premiums.

Call me with your property address and I can start shopping around for you. If you have a current home insurance policy, please have that available when you call me.

I helped my neighbors call them today; they have a nice unpermitted house with 2 daughter's that live in it. It's all they have and everything they own is in it. So for them to be able to insure it would and it's contents would be ideal. I'm assuming there would be some exclusions. For example, if there's an electrical fire it probably wouldn't be covered because the electrical components (and those are VERY limited) are not permitted. But, if there's a case of arson or a forest fire, it'd be nice to know they have insurance. For theft also, they should be able to get insurance like everyone else. Here's hoping Mr. Lau is not full of crap. Will update when I get any info or response.

Aloha All,

I've helped a lot of people get fire/hurricane insurance in lava zones 1 & 2. We have offices in Kailua-Kona and Hilo.

So far, no one has called me to help them with getting insurance for their unpermitted home.

I've been selling insurance for a long time. This is the first time a company has been willing to give quotes to unpermitted dwellings!

Hope to hear from you soon,

Norrin

Alohaaaaaa Norrin,

Nice HIGHLIGHTING there!!!!!

It's extraordinary that the possibility for them, and maybe thousands of other's, to buy insurance is an option. Les and I called that day on his cell. We weren't able to get through. The phone just rang and rang; if an explanation for my HIGHLIGHTED hope is needed.

For some reason, the phrase...let's hope they're not full of crap...simply flows from my mouth like melted syrup. I assure you, it has nothing to do with you.

I'll go over tomorrow morning and ask him to use my land line to call. Hope to talk to you tomorrow!

Norrin, please email me and let me know what info you need to do a quote. I would like to get a quote for Lava zone 2. I am just fed up with Atlas Ins and their horrid admin practices. I think as of mid Oct I can change carriers.

For others: Please contact me about Atlas Insurance if you may be thinking of using them as your broker.
