If you renew or apply for your Hawaii Drivers License on or after March 5th, you will need a lot more time & original documentation....DOT Link:
http://hawaii.gov/dot/hawaiis-legal-presence-law
You must bring in ORIGINAL or certified copies of the required documents, these will be scanned & it will take "two weeks " to received your renewed/new license in the MAIL!

Good.
Act38.. must show " proof of legal presence" to be in U.S.A.
That's a good thing. I don't understand the problem?
Unless the person is here illegally or in p.c. terms "undocumented"
....waiting two weeks is not a big deal , just don't wait until the last minute. It's a legal document not jiffy popcorn

Not a problem, UNLESS you do not KNOW there is a change & you do not bring the original documents needed...or you need your renewal/new license in LESS than "two weeks" (I have quoted this both times, as this is from a press release from Honolulu, & have no idea if neighbor islands will also get "two week" service, or if it will better, or worse that....)

This seems quite ironic. I'm a green card holder and not (yet) a US citizen, but it seems that US citizens might have a more difficult time proving who they are than I do. I have a simple piece of plastic to show the the DMV official but if I were born in the US I have to dig out my birth certificate or whatever other document I can find to prove where I was born.
Well, I did have to do that originally plus a lot more to get the green card and it was a real pain, especially being on a neighbor island, but now natural born citizens have to do that. Something seems wrong here...

so is obama now going to sue the state of hawaii?
oh wait, he doesnt care what you have to go through to get a drivers license, he just wants you to be able to VOTE for the president of the united states without having to show any ID. yeah, that makes alot of sense....

I believe all states are doing it to comply with a Federal regulation. Good point about the voting thing.

Every state must comply to make their ID cards comply with the REAL ID act of 2005 ( if those IDs are to comply with federal security requirements).
You have to have an original copy of you SS card along with an original & current proof of "legal presence" which includes: a passport, or birth certificate, or green card, or cert. of naturalization or citizenship (and other forms, but the DOT server is right now not able to handle the requests...so IT was not ready for this change!)
I did not expect such a broad range here, it was only to alert you folks of a change.... But in a quick review, I think that green card holders still need the 2 forms (original SS & current proof of "legal residence" ), so not sure if it is more or less difficult...
I only hope I REMEMBER to bring the documents I need & to renew with enough time! (only because I know me....& age has not made me BETTER at remembering these things...& I have looked at my ID in the past & realized it way close to expiration date.... once close on the wrong side of close!)
