Thank you Rene! We live in Waa Waa and love the roads the way they are. Opihikao Rd is a race track now, just ask Bill who has his grandkids playing out front and has put signs up asking people to slow down. Pohoiki has trucks with boats in tow going 3x the speed limit. Waa Waa is fine the way it is, these people just chose the wrong place to live and should leave. By the way Waa Waa isn't cheap.

I had a lame letter sent to me from someone trying to organize in Waa Waa, I tore it up. The reason I live in Waa Waa is because it is rural.

Government Beach Road does not belong to County, or State, or any individual.

In "theory" it's up to County to accept the grant of this road from State.

Until then, nobody is responsible for maintaining it.


That is what is so nice about Waa Waa. It will never be a highway.

Cwaters, im sorry. However I think your idea of growing old there, from yours and your husbands already elderly state, is a poor choice. I would guess that you would end up needing better access to emergency services and a better place for your husband to walk. It seems as if you have particular needs that others in the area do not and you would be better served living in a location where those needs could potentially be met. Things will likely never change anytime soon in the waawaa and most I talk to in the area seem to confirm they are pleased with this. Maybe its the circles I run in. But most the people who seem to be for paving, do not live there, or are looking to sell out of there. I personally believe the coastal trail has a historical significance that will not be satisfied with asphalt. Its not in limbo, it is exactly where it should be.

I believe afwjam is speaking about trying to change Waa Waa for the needs of just a very few people. Perhaps this rural location is not the best choice for some. Maybe they should rethink what their needs are and consider living where those needs might be better met instead of changing the wild beauty of this area. This was the original gist of this forum section wasn't it Rob?
