Yes, they are Paving the road... When I went through they were about 8 guys standing around on the edge of 130 and everyone moving 5mph to have a look.

yes, it took me an hour to come home from hilo to hpp. the back-up was pretty much from the 11 turn-off and yes they were paving a very narrow shoulder on the right side going to pahoa at about the humane society. Then it was clear

you would think they would schedule that paving for morning time. Not at rush hour on in bound traffic. but what do I know?

I'd think they'd be able to not work the busy side those couple hours in the morning and afternoon. I tried going up 11 to go through the Acres, that was no go as well.

I notice they are putting in a large pipe next to the highway. Anyone know if this is a water main and if there any plans for bringing water to HPP and other subdivisions?

I think the new pipe is to replace the existing one under the current shoulder that will now be buried and abandoned under the new inbound lane. I don't think there is a new water supply going anywhere.

Hmmm, I thought maybe they were going to put all the utilities underground. I guess they missed a golden opportunity for that.

Yeah, pretty stupid HDOT planning as usual. If an earthquake brings down those power poles not only will there be a loss of power - the hwy will be closed.
Assume the best and ask questions.

quote: My favorite part of the whole thing: the 4-lane highway plan has been approved, so of course they're only moving the HELCO poles about ten feet -- so they can move them again in a couple of years... |
