Frogs in mulch pile

I have a number of holes in our mulch pile, about 2 inches across. Observed in the hole was a frog, about 2 inches long, with pairs of spots running down its back. I've seen the same type frog hopping along our driveway. Anyone familiar with these?

Are you sure it isn't a young Buffo toad? They like spending the day in holes and staying damp and a mulch pile could have food sources for them too.

Chickens will also poke holes/rip tarps looking for protein, possibly the frog/toad you saw if you cover your mulch to "cook" it.

The Buffo holes I've seen have smooth sides, like a regularly used tunnel, not like someone was digging out prey if that helps at all.

Here's a web site which may help you determine the difference between the greenhouse frog and the coqui. If its not either one of those I would vote for buffo / cane toad. http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/coqui/differences.asp

ETA: don't dwell on shape/color/spots of greenhouse versus coqui, the toes tell it all. Coquis have "gecko like" toes that allow them to crawl up walls, etc.

Thinking it must be a buffo toad. Too big to be greenhouse or coqui, and he hopes have smooth sides. Next time I'll try to get a photo
