It appears to be some kind of bean / pea. I have seen little fuzzy bean pods on them. I guess I would just keep on it. All the invasives I have battled really don't like to be spray / weedwhacked repeatedly and after a while will finally die back so that you can pull them out by the roots.

Planting something in its place seems to be the best way to prevent a grow back from my experience - this may still require additional help like weeding while the replacement gets established.

I like sweet potato as a ground cover, alternativey perennial peanut though it is slower to spread in my experience.

This is invasive on Oahu too (I just moved back to BI after living on Oahu for the last 8 years).

I call it the kudzu of Hawaii.

ya it does seems to grow like kudzu. Wow it is fast...fast enough that it is hard to get something else to grow there as it just over takes it from the ditches. This is WAR. ;-)
