After using Tango for a few months without any reduction in LFA numbers, I went back to the Hawaii Ant Lab web site and discovered they aren't using it to eradicate LFA on the other islands because they found something else THAT WORKS.
ANT LAB:
Big News - Provaunt now available for HAL gel bait!
Monday, December 15, 2014
After about 4 years of negotiations, we finally have a "Special Needs Permit" to allow Provaunt to be used in the HAL gel bait.
Provaunt contains indoxacarb which is a new class of pesticide with a very low non-target toxicity. It works very differently from Tango and is very fast acting. Ideally, I would recommend that people use Tango for 3-4 treatments, then switch to Provaunt bait. This combination would have the best overall effect - the Tango disabling the queens, followed by Provaunt to wipe out any survivors.
We use this combination approach with the eradications on Maui, Kauai and Oahu and it has been very effective.
The Special Needs Permit can be downloaded by clicking this blog post.
Please call the lab or email us if you would like any more information.
cheers and happy holidays!
Provaunt in stock at CPS
Monday, January 26, 2015
hi folks,
CPS have just let me know that their shipment of Provaunt has arrived. They have it in 12 oz bottles which will be a lot more useful to most people than the 120 oz ones they had until now. Their location is 900 Leilani St Hilo which is the road to the Hilo Landfill. Their warehouse is just past the Railroad st intersection.
TERRACORE:
I called CPS and they do have the 12 ounce bottles in stock for $117.00. Unfortunately CPS is closed on the weekends but I'm going to get some next week and try it. Between that and the Siesta I just got, I'm hoping for some real change in the LFA numbers.

Would be my first choice against
Wasmannia auropunctata and any termites
I call it talk talk
since insects carry it around and talk to others passing the chemical each time
(kind of like salesmen in downtown Pahoa)
A very diluted flea powder may be available.
Problem is this kills bees too. I would never use on plants bees would visit

Obie, I am afraid you are calling people names. You have to go to your room and come out when you can play nicely with other children.

Suiting up with respirator, etc. seems only needed before the product is diluted for application.

Obie.
This flea powder contains fipronil. The reason they work so well is just a tiny amount is very toxic to insects including fire ants.
Flevox Large Dog Flea Treatment is
a Fipronil based spot on treatment
Longlast Fipronil Flea and Tick Spray for Dogs
Bob Martin FleaClear Spot On for Cats
Fipronil , a new active ingredient used in
Parastar, a flea treatment
Full concentrates on insecticides are expensive and more dangerous.
Instead of spending $117 and getting hazmat suit I would try it. Specifically have in mind keeping it away from areas bees go. This chemical will kill whole bee hives.
Bait the buggers with some peanut butter underneath a cut-out plastic jug weighed down with a stone. Add the flea powder onto a foil so it won't go into ground water. Of course you are being far more responsible than pet owners that let their pets carry fipronil all over the place, but that is the type of person you are.
Report back to group. I have no fire ants (Wasmannia auropunctata) to try for you.
Peter,
Obie is currently up two points in bartering and this one didn't count owing to indirect reference to a favorite movie. Wait, no, he scored another. Obie up three.
If no one caught the reference the line he may have unwittingly referred to was spoken by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.

My point was that you are advocating using a pesticide that kills bees !

To each their own, I'd at very least add a goggles or face shield. variable winds around here can blow unpredictably...
As for pets dunno, I wouldn't my pet run around in the yard for a few days after treatment. If it's bad for you, can't be too good for the pets I suspect?
So tango really doesn't work now? Maybe mix a stronger bait formula? Add more peanut oil or something to attract them to it more? I wonder why it stopped working?
I don't have much faith in our pesticide's and favor not contaminating the earth any more than we have too. But LFA is an exception... Nasty nasty insect.
I hope it works and eradicates them.

From
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fipronil...
Fipronil is one of the main chemical causes blamed for the spread of colony collapse disorder among bees. It has been found by the Minutes-Association for Technical Coordination Fund in France that even at very low nonlethal doses for bees, the pesticide still impairs their ability to locate their hive, resulting in large numbers of forager bees lost with every pollen-finding expedition.[20] A 2013 report by the European Food Safety Authority identified fipronil as "a high acute risk to honeybees when used as a seed treatment for maize and on July 16, 2013 the EU voted to ban the use of Fipronil on corn and sunflowers within the EU. The ban took effect at the end of 2013."
Based on that I have to say to even suggest Fipronil's use on Hawaii island where bees are so challenged as it is shows a level of stupidity that is unparalleled here. Your suggestion is verging on criminal methinks.
