Can anyone recommend a company that installs solar-powered automatic gate openers in Puna?

What type?
The swing opener can be done by any handyman, it's quite simple. A sliding gate is more complex.

The sliders seem to outlast the swingers or at least it appears that way to me.

For a swing gate, MightyMule openers work, are designed to be installed by the average handyperson, best price is from Amazon. Their solar panel option is stupidly expensive; any generic 12V panel will work, 10W is plenty.

That said, they are consumer-grade and will fail after some years of service.

A professional fencing company will happily install an Orion or similar, this will run at least $2K. Replacing the GTO every few years might well be cheaper long-term.

This is an old thread but has anyone installed an automatic gate in the past year? What did you get and do you like it?

We have a Mighty Mule but it doesn't work anymore. Was considering a USAutomatic Sentry 300 Commercial Grade Automatic Gate Opener. Has good reviews on Amazon but Fakespot gives the reviews a grade of 'F' since most of the reviews are created by bots. I'm guessing the excess rain of Hilo makes it tough for these electronics.

I have had an Apollo for about 10 years. The are great gate operators and arms but their boxes and motherboards are not the best. I did replace the control box with an all aluminum one after the original rusted out and I also replaced the motherboard with a USAutomatic (Patriot). The Patriot motherboards seem to do much better in our environment.

You can order them on-line and install them yourself if you are a handy person. I ran and connected everything myself including the home intercom system and two access controls. The wiring of the motherboard to the intercom and two control stations. There is a bit of a learning curve but with a little patience and Google you can get it done.
