Both of my lots doubled. The homeowner exempted residence and the vacant next door. Bit of a shock to the eyes and wallet.

This tax does NOT come from HNL but Hilo!
Yes, and no; local tax goes up every time HNL keeps a bigger share of TAT.

Sorry, I don't agree Kalakoa. My tax hasn't gone up for a decade. I agree w/Kapoho Joe....still a bargain!

My tax hasn't gone up for a decade.
Not where you can see it, anyway; property taxes don't increase for "some people", but you'll still pay higher fuel tax, etc. Anyone else notice the sudden retail price hikes forced by State increasing the wharfage fee? I think it happens again next year, and the year after.

I must have missed the memo. I was stunned to see a 100% increase. Thanks Harry.

My property tax went up 33% this year, the first time it's gone up at all in 15 years. The assessed value went up only $5,000.

There is a 3% cap on increases in Hawaii County.
Did all of you reporting big increases file an exemption form for a homeowners exemption ? If not did you file a Hawaii income tax return ? You have to do one or the other or you lose your exemption. http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/forms/R...019-71.pdf

We have Homeowners exemption and file State taxes just to cover all bases.
Never-the-less, 100% increase.

I would assume the neighborhood you live in may have gone through a re-appraisal. Got to Hawaii County Tax :
http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/search.html You can find your property and compare your tax with your neighbor's. |
