There's always the time honored shotgun shell filled with rock salt for special occasions

No need to shoot anyone. If someone comes to my house, I greet them and ask them how I can help them.
If they want to convert me or sell me something then I say no thanks, wish them a pleasant day and walk away.
This is how I always pictured the semi-rural lifestyle.

Pretty much my style also. I used to get Jehova Witness people once or twice a month, but after politely declining .. they gave up.
no weapons or threat of cold blooded murder needed.
Okay Google... Who are these people and why ain't they working?

The problem with signs like this is that you can't legally shoot someone for trespassing. You'd be in big trouble even if the person was really a burglar. I believe that guy who lived in HOVE is still in prison for shooting a thief on his property.
A bigger problem for someone who decides to call their bluff and gets shot dead. It's legal to shoot an intruder on your property that's deemed a threat to your safety. Thief in HOVE must have been shot in the back.
Thief was at the end of long driveway, leaving the property and was most definitely shot in the back with a shotgun. Given those details, I don't mind if the shooter never gets out.
Now as far as 'Solicitors' 'Peddlers' & 'Salespeople' go, nobody minds when it's Girl Scout cookie time!!
Seriously, it's locked gates and barking dogs time here in the Rift Zone. When I get really old, I'm going to have my fence electrified for extra measure.

I have a fence with dogs and a "no trespassing" sign. That's all. I absolutely NEVER have anyone other than friends or relatives open the gate and enter. Peddlers simply choose the next driveway when they see barking dogs within a fence.
I also find it odd that you, PaulW, refuse to give anymore details about the salesman. It couldn't hurt to divulge that info. Maybe neighbors want to know so they can differentiate the salespeople from the thieves.

One time the LDS Missionaries walked past our gate and right up to the house. I was walking down the hill from the back yard with 2 BIG dogs on leads. They almost pulled my arms off trying to get to the unwelcome intruders, which was a bummer because I’d just had one rotator cuff repaired and was waiting to do the other one. I explained that it was not acceptable for them to go past the gate and No Trespassing signs and come onto our property and they left. I followed up by going to the Church and speaking with the Bishop. They haven’t been back.
I like to be polite to people but intrusions by strangers into my world are not appreciated and sometimes cause unintended harm.
I think it’s best to respect people’s privacy.

One had a limp and the other had hair noticeably growing on his left ear. One sold frog blenders and the other encyclopedias.
By coincidence, they both drove red Chinese cars.
Is that enough information?
