LOL...
No need to decipher intent on that.
It was pretty well communicated textually by the forum moderator.

I certainly agree that he did not mean any malice by the comment.
However, you simply do not use words that can be considered offensive. If black people consider the term "colored" offensive, then perhaps we should refrain from using it. Modern society appears to have moved away from the term, why not Harry Kim? The COH is in need of some serious public relations people.

One of the myriad of reasons why we don't go down the road of publicly promoting the shaming of subjectively applied offensive speech is because it leads to a man in Sweden who was charged by the Attunda District Court and now faces two years in prison for expressing that Somalis have a low average IQ, which is technically correct according to the available data stating it's 68.
We here in the USA are typically taught a little expression as children, it goes like this... Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
That builds people of character who don't easily crumble and crack under social pressure then begin shooting everyone in sight.
We have embarked down a very dangerous social path of late and it need to be rejected, wholeheartedly.

2liveque, you post
.
"However, you simply do not use words that can be considered offensive."
of course not. If we chose to be responsible for the world that we create around us then of course we would not deliberately offend others. That's the point, I doubt very seriously Mayor Kim would deliberately offend anyone's ethnic makeup. What would be the motive? On the other hand, look at the title of this thread. Offense intended.
Mayor Kim is older than I am but I have experienced "name change" for several ethnic groups thru the years. This topic.....colored, which was once Negro, which was once African American and now, I think, the preferred is Black. Yes, he could be more up to speed on what is considered the right terminology . I put it in perspective ,considering what is on his table table right now and the main thing for me......NO MALICE intended. I can not say the same thing for the title of this post.
I am in alignment with w.n.k. on this topic. 2 books I would suggest you read . "Wild Swans"
by Jung Chang and "Mao" by Jon Halliday & Jung Chang. If you don't think that this can happen here, think again.
