Just announced on khon tv station that the next one coming is NOT a threat to our islands.
Makes perfect sense to me that the storm named Paul is puny, weak and is expected to fizzle out.

I'll not tell my mainland son, 33 year old Paul, what you said there.I'll let you tell him when he comes for a visit around Christmas! (says me, the smirking bearded geezer)

The GOES-17 satellite is still commissioning, but it’s sending down a steady stream of video. Colorado State has current views available, as well as recent archieved video. The resolution is fantastically detailed, I only hope it allows forecasters in Hawaii more information to work with, should any more hurricanes come our way this season (optimistically speaking):

Try this for a start. Near the bottom of the controls on the left of the page, check Archived Imagery. Zoom in on the area between Mexico & Hawaii, set the dates for a week or two ago through today, then watch Hurricane Lane and Olivia spin across the Pacific.

If you recall last year they extended the Hurricane season past the normal Hawaii span (end on Nov.30) and on into the months of December and January, saying the disturbances were still possible to form because of the El-Nino thing happening. I expect something similar to happen this year and as long as our ocean temps are elevated.

In addition to warmer sea temps and hurricanes later in the year, storms throughout the hurricane season are significantly stronger. Some have suggested a Catagory 6 hurricane designation should be added to the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Thirty years ago only 12% of the typhoons in the western North Pacific were in the 'super typhoon' category (67 m/s, 130 kt) today this percentage is 24,” James Elsner, an atmospheric scientist at Florida State University, said in an email.
Elsner recently looked at this question with regard to cyclones in the North Pacific and found that a case could be made for the addition of a sixth category.

Do you have anything more recent that is written by someone who has at least done some science classes?

The author of the Forbes article, James Taylor:
A good example of this was an article by Heartland Institute’s contributor to Forbes, James Taylor, falsely claiming only a minority of scientists endorse the IPCC position on the causes of global warming.
The claim is, of course, a deception (or possibly total incompetence) on the part of Heartland’s “senior fellow for environment policy”...

Deception? Incompetence? So many choices, I'm going to go with incompetence. And now back to our Hawaii 2018 Hurricane Season - skies are clear here in HPP!

Back to fake hurricane news (change of pace from real hurricane news). Weather channel reporter can barley stand up in the fierce wind, yet 2 others calmly stroll across the background on their mobile phones.
