Ironyak - 10% and whataboutism is not an effective treatment.

Effective treatment is not whining, name calling, & complaining either.

Here's the 29 minute video from earlier today with:

* Gov. Ige
* Dr. Sarah Park, state’s Epidemiologist
* Danette Tomiyasu, deputy director Health Resources Administration

Our state resources have become even more important as earlier today it was reported that federal reporting about COVID-19 will be handled by the Vice President, without direct public dissemination from health agencies.

Hawaii Senator Schatz had this to say:
We need to hear from the CDC and NIH in a live news conference, with no elected officials within five hundred yards, and public health and science journalists in the room rather than those who cover politics. And the stations should cover it live because the airwaves are public.

Fortunately we in Hawaii can still hear COVID-19 updates, reports and listen to news conferences directly from our Department of Health.

If Schatz feels so strongly about Truth and Public Health, perhaps he can arrange for people to actually be tested? Too much to hope for?

Ask and ye shall receive:

Testing in the islands to begin soon
The CDC has given the green light to the state’s laboratory to start testing for coronavirus.
State health officials said Hawaii could have the capacity to begin testing as early as next week.
The governor and others have expressed growing frustration in recent weeks over the inability to test for the virus because of a series of CDC stumbles, including flawed tests sent to the state.

It is hard not to be amused by old conservatives - 100 proof arrogance and ignorance! Unfortunately, it takes 60%+ alcohol to sterilize for the SARS-Cov-2 virus. (I'll leave you to puzzle out the math Wink

Ask and ye shall receive
with the caveat that we've heard that all before over the last couple weeks.

At least the CDC did update their case definition to include testing for those with symptoms and a travel history in the past 14 days to Iran, Italy, Japan, South Korea, or China.

However, they are still not testing for community-transmission (no travel history) unless you have symptoms, are hospitalized, and are not diagnosed for the flu (so only after you've been contagious, out in public, for multiple weeks)

Nonetheless, even with these restrictions, the number of positive cases being identified will certainly be increasing in the next week. Finish your preps and gather ye rosebuds while ye may, old time is still a-flying...

"Empty Shelves Hit Hawaii" https://www.khon2.com/local-news/worries...empty-out/

I witnessed it first hand. I went to Costco today and I don't think it has been that busy even at Christmas time. Not a single parking spot to be found. Everybody was driving around and around and around waiting for somebody to leave and when somebody was loading up the train would stop and everything would gridlock. Some people were just blatantly parking in illegal spots. There were regular cars in the EV spots. Inside the store, the costco guy was trying to bring out a replacement pallet of TP and people were grabbing off it as he was trying to maneuver it into place. But there was already a mostly-full pallet already sitting on the floor next to it. One guy was wearing a mask and frantically loading up his cart with TP. Most people were grabbing 3. Oddly enough the TP area had normal traffic about 20 minutes later.

They had most of the lanes open and the checkout lines were long, but most people weren't buying unusually large amounts of stuff (other than TP).

Our daughter on Oahu told us that some of the stores have sold out of TP and other things. She hasn't been to Costco.

I've been meaning to go to Costco for the last few weeks because most of our Costco "staples" were running out. I'm glad I went today because this weekend will probably be crazy now that the news is reporting the empty shelves.

ETA: https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2020/02/27...panic-buy/ "He added that if there is an outbreak, the state has 166 air isolation rooms. Test kits for coronavirus won’t be available in Hawaii until mid-March."

Sweet! We have two more weeks before the virus gets here!! No reason to panic buy!
