Composting toilet & porta potty rental
#11
SB2583 (2016) reassigns approval for "installation and use" to the Counties. Has our County actually type-approved something, and did it pass inspection? (Looking for an actual installation, not "what the codes say", because codes are "subject to interpretation".)

FYI, I wrote a carefully worded letter to the Hawaii State Department of Sanitation detailing a proposed "alternative wastewater system." It included a composting toilet, a commercially approved greywater filter, and a pressurized drip irrigation system for the disposal of the filtered grey water.

This was 3 months ago. Crickets.

“We know that water is precious and scarce in Hawaiʻi and we really want to conserve water whenever we can”

After the last two weeks, this concept is alien to me. Smile

Where does county water come from?

“There are an estimated 88,000 cesspools in Hawaiʻi, the highest number per capita in the country, that discharge more than 53 million gallons of raw sewage each day”

That’s 602 gallons of raw sewage per day, per household. Really?

Insert joke here.

I asked that same question a few years back and no one seemed to know.
Maybe things have changed?
