The Hawaiʻi Board of Agriculture unanimously approved the Import Permit application submitted by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
The permit allows UH to import Southern house mosquitoes that have been inoculated with a foreign (incompatible) Wolbachia bacteria.
The approval of this import permit is an important first step to make “mosquito birth control” a viable option to prevent the extinction of our native forest birds.
Mahalo nui loa to the over 140 individuals, agencies, and organizations who testified in support!

Bad enough our native mosquitos are being displaced by these foreign invaders, but now we're considering eugenics? Send these colonizers home and malama our makika maoli!

No such thing in Hawaii as native mosquitos. They are an invasive species.

I think it's a joke aimed at those who whine about eradication efforts targeting other invasives such as coqui.

It's been a decade since the first field trial of Wolbachia-infected Aegypti. The technology was a proven success before we had our dengue outbreak. Why aren't we allowed to have nice things?

I’d even settle for not having nasty things.

First, we have to vote in people who actually want us all to have nice access to nice things, not just themselves.

But who decides what is "nice things"? is it living on a paved road so people can speed by? With street lights? And maybe some of those really bright outdoor lights that people use to feel "safe"?
Certainty will be the death of us.

I don't mind not having those things, I just don't like getting taxed for having them when I don't.
