What?! Please explain. In the mean time Iʻm going to have to look at a lot of online articles to see how many spaces there are. This rocks my world.

This rocks my world.

Don't want to rub salt into an open wound, but young people also think putting a period at the end of a text message is aggressive and rude.  The ultimate insult if you do use a period is to accuse the sender of being a boomer.

I say, too bad.  Deal with it.

How did you discover this?  I agree that a period is unnecessary for a one sentence text.  Instead of stringing sentences together, I guess they just send another message.  And then another...

Iʻm shattered, but Iʻm glad thereʻs a workaround in Word. Iʻll be watching for it when it comes, but it hasnʻt come yet. I just checked gmail and two spaces are still ok there and no errors on this site yet. Whew.

I can deal with no periods in texts. which are usually short. I do all sorts of illegal thing there, like U for you, R for are. Itʻs where I get my grammatical ya yaʻs out. And yeah, I should have had quotes around the U and the R.

Generation X here, and I put a period after a sentence. If I'm texting, then I put anything after a sentence because I'm fat-fingered, but give me a keyboard and I'll put periods where they should be, argument done. But they are really full stops, right?

Period - I'm taking a break from this sentence.

Full stop - the sentence has ended and now I'm onto another one.

Wow. Correct punctuation is aggressive and rude? I'm definitely a boomer.

You put a period at the end of your last sentence, so according to some, yes, that's both aggressive and rude. Obviously, you weren't texting, but since a few people here like to use text speak when posting on PW, you're as guilty as hell...

(note:  I used several periods so think I'm in the clear)

Using a period at the end of a text message, from NY Times:

The consensus is that many texters, especially young people, see end-of-message periods as tonally significant because they are unnecessary. It is clear that a message has ended regardless of punctuation, because each message is in its own bubble. Thus, the message break has become the default full-stop.

To younger generations, using proper punctuation in a casual context like texting can give an impression of formality that borders on rudeness, as if the texter is not comfortable enough with the texting partner to relax. The message-ending period establishes a certain distance. The punctuation is polite when speaking to someone older than you or above you at work, but off-putting among friends.

Simply put, the inclusion of a formality in casual communication is unnerving.
