Spin Launch goes around in circles with Ka'u

What is your opinion based on?

Dont take my word on this high school physics question. Dr. Phil Mason did a couple of debunk videos on this.

I suggest you watch something that actually deals with the actual engineering and science rather than the nonsense in the videos you posted. The first video you posted a link started off with strawman arguments about using a countdown and a video with confetti so was a bad start. I forced myself to watch both but they were so misleading I feel sorry for anyone who believes the stuff that was posted in them. It was like watching a flat-earther post proof that the Earth is flat.

I suggest you watch this rather more sensible video and then reconsider your objection to the project and your view that suggests the engineers and scientists working on the project don't know more than high school physics.

PS. randomq - I now understand the 25% number. I was under the impression that SpinLaunch wouldn't launch things with rocket motors but that's not the case. What they want to do is replace the main rockets that are currently used by launching so fast that you only need a second or third-stage rocket.

And your video is complete lackluster in real engineering (because spin launch is conveniently  quiet "under patent applicaiton") and more of a paid infomercial.
Its ok Tom, they will go through 3 or so rounds of VC funding and never launch a payload to orbit. 3 rounds of VC that the island wont see one dime of.

olice say that between Aug. 31 and Wednesday, numerous road signs were stolen from Highway 11 in in the areas of Pahala, Punaluu Black Sands Beach, Naalehu and Waiohinu.

The types of signs removed include but are not limited to: Nene Goose Crossing, Tsunami Evacuation Route, and Hawaii scenic byway signs.

eBay is kind of obvious. My guess is that they are using them as roofing material. Those signs are a lot bigger than they look.

I recently read that all over the country the "Mile 420" markers are getting stolen faster than they can put them up so they have resorted to some creative ways to keep them from getting stolen. One state has stopped replacing them and instead using "Mile 419.9". Another has replaced the signs with boulders with "Mile 420" engraved onto them.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Does real engineering need to be full of luster? How are the videos I linked infomercials, and how is "under patent applicaiton" relevant? You've made a claim that the scientists and engineers working for SpinLaunch know nothing beyond high-school physics yet you won't explain how that can possibly be true.

And if the island never sees a dime from SpinLaunch, it's nothing to do with the company, it will be due to the attitude of a small group of people here who want progress stopped and not allow new opportunities for Big Island folk at a time when they are desperately needed.

I’m often under the impression that it’s not a choice for some of the people who want progress stopped.  Many of them couldn’t rub two nickels together for a plane ticket elsewhere.  Or if they could, find a job when they landed.

Except we're not making it up. Ka'u is a depressed area whose residents have made it abundantly clear that they do not want any development of any kind ever.
