Protests in Hilo elsewhere in Hawaii - June 14th next
#51
Does anyone have  a report on the protest in Hilo by Ross yesterday from 10AM-12PM?  There's nothing in the local news that I can find.  Apologies if I am missing it.

Report from the front-lines (of caution tape) - pretty nice turn out on a unexpectedly hot day (Wunderground forecast had some concerned about rain - hopefully NOAA is making the investment to update those models to better account for climate change - oh wait...). About the same as April 5th, maybe a bit smaller, which seems to mirror the national turn-out.

Was personally hoping for more musicians and instruments to show up, but mad props to the girl with the bucket drum holding things down - only wish I had brought a fife! Flags were waved (Slava Ukraini!), songs were sung, and thanks to everyone who brought a donation for the Hilo Food Basket as it was a day for community work and support. Onward and upward - movement continues to grow!

Thereʻs a video on Damon Tuckerʻs public Facebook page. My husband went. He said it was somewhat smaller than the protest 2 weeks ago. I stayed home and wrote letters to various government reps. Seemed like a more productive use of my time.

Mahalo all for the reports PKF, IY, and kalianna.  Kalianna do you have a link to DT's FB video?  Apologies for not being able to find it.

Honest question kalianna - what are you asking them to do? Other than not enabling the madness (cough cough Ed Case) curious as to specific topics of focus if you care to share. Thanks!

Mahalo Wahine!  I obviously do not FB enough. Damon Tucker says, "I don't think I've ever seen a protest this large at this Hilo location!"

Thanks Wahine, you beat me to it. Ironyak, Iʻm not asking anyone else to do anything; itʻs just what I choose to do. I write my congressional reps and support them and ask them to do more. I followed HOTPEʻs Register link. And Iʻm also writing various congressional reps outside Hawaii, informing them that although I canʻt vote against them Iʻll be donating generously to their opponents. Thereʻs plenty of different tactics. Whatʻs important is to do SOMETHING and not just sit around wringing our hands.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - was just curious as to what you were asking your reps to focus on or do specifically given the deluge of issues. Totally agree that many tactics are needed across all fronts - very much an all hands on deck situation. Thanks for adding yours to the effort - cheers!
