Yes! Thank you! It’s been so long, it faded, even in my mind.
Set.

I’ve gotta drive south of Pahoa more often.

The few people I've known to be "trust fund kids" didn't make it here in Puna. Maybe it's the fact they could afford to abandon their property and go try something else. At least us old Punatics have gumption, even if we are insane to stay, and massively financially disadvantaged.

Grabbing attention however you can, to make people think, never goes out of style.

“A power so great, it can only be used for good, or evil.” -Firesign Theater

I went to Karuizawa on my Japanese trip, Yoko & John would summer there, at the Mampei Hotel.  Beautiful spot.  Like Volcano, if Volcano was covered with an endless forest of beech trees.  Not thick jungle like places in Puna, but walkable between the trunks of trees.

One of the good things about Puna (compared to Japan) - - BUMPER STICKERS!

As the late, great Jock Ewing once said, "Real power is something you take!"

Note: National and world politics are not allowed.

Yes, I appreciate the reminder!
Now that you’ve grabbed my attention on this matter, where do you think nonexistent trust funds should be categorized?

In? Out? They’re imaginary, so not in Puna I would imagine.
Whoops.

I still have an I Brake For Tigers bumper sticker on my oldest car. Color bumper stickers are the best.

Norman Maclean - "The world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further one gets from Missoula, Montana."
Edge - Kauai must be intolerable. But at least they have rivers, where I presume you can fish!

Apparently you can - even for rainbow trout! Apparently many of them are descended from Montana trout and were introduced over 100 years ago.

Maybe someone has more direct experience, as they're out of my league - “If our father had had his say, nobody who did not know how to fish would be allowed to disgrace a fish by catching him.”

Punatang - Mine says "Whirled Peas"  It's Prominently displayed next to my "Coexist" sticker.

Might have crossed paths with one of you at the recent protests - are these on the other corner of the bumper? It was a Prius so possibly a fellow "pretentious clown" into chromatic coexistence and aware of their carbon footprint in Hawai'i.

I think it was ‘73-‘74?
I don’t remember the nuclear student’s name, but I’ll see if I get around to contacting my old girlfriend, ask if she remembers.  I wanted to check in with her anyway since I read it’s the 50th anniversary of the publication of “A River Run’s Through It.”  Her mother handled the advertising for U of Chicago Press, and they printed 5000 copies when no one else wanted the book.  It’s sold millions since that 1st edition, I was curious if her mom ever talked about her part in finding an audience for the book.

Movie recommendation: A River Runs Through It.  Directed by Robert Redford, starring Brad Pitt, etc.

I was in 5th grade in '73...lol. The other women I worked with in Washington state were at the most 3-5 years older than me.

A River Runs Through It was a wonderful movie.

but it would be so cool to just go book a truck (like a rental) from the local community center or something.

Not a communal truck, but more affordable personal truck, new $25,000:

a single 63-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery option the company expects will provide around 205 miles of range. The Slate trucks use the Tesla-compatible NACS port, and fast charging from 20 to 80 percent should take 30 minutes. A Level 2 charge from 20 percent to full should take about four hours, and if your driving distances are limited, the Slate can just about be charged on a regular outlet. Slate says a 20 to 80 percent Level 1 charge should take 17 hours.
