Medicare Plan Cuts In Puna
#21
I'm not there yet, but for those of you who are, according to a letter I received from an insurance agent, if you need to change your plan, today is the first day of the period of time when you are allowed to make changes.  December 7th seems to be the last day, per the agent.  Why did they make it Pearl Harbor Day?

Right.  More than half of Hawaii residents enrolled in Medicare have a Medicare advantage plan.   To add insult to injury, they aren't eligible for the whopping $90 Trump administration one time payment.

Another farce thread.

After doing some research, it became clear that the wool has again been pulled over the eyes of lame stream media consumers.  Yea, that carrier's income from Uncle Sam is less, for the same product, and for a d___ good reason that again, spans across administrations, congresses, and courts since the early 2000's. Do you like govt. regulation and protection?  Well, this is how it works.

Research Star Ratings and their effect on carrier income. Now check the star ratings of the plans that the lying liars who lie wrote about.  I'm sure a full retraction will be posted in short order.  Sheesh.

that the lying liars who lie wrote about

I'm not too sure if you understand where that phrase came from, so either you do and you've come to terms with where you get your information from, or you don't know and just made a colossal blunder!

At any event, it's now estimated that around 16,000 Hawaii residents will lose their Medicare Advantage coverage because of the laws and financial cuts passed under the BBB. Maybe we could live stream each of their individual outcomes from that cut to show everyone else the price they now have to pay to get old in America! That will learn them for sure!

As you say Tang, it's another farce, only this one was played upon the most vulnerable.

16,000 Hawaii residents will lose their Medicare Advantage coverage

16,000 real human beings in Hawaii will lose healthcare?
That’s almost as many as the 18,000 or was it 19,000 Hawaii votes that never existed except in the imagination of a few but elicited a gnashing of teeth, rending of cloth over many posts.  The only thing real in that situation were the lying liars fabricating out of whole cloth, and their parrots.

Is it another case of ill conceived ideologies shipwrecked on misguided priorities out of BrainWashington DC, over empathy for our friends and neighbors?

With no where to go, they deflect and double down on the lies.

Clearly, no research was done. No comprehension was achieved.

The carrier that the lying liars who lie wrote about, is increasing their prices so much, because their star ratings are dropping even further in 2027 (3 star plans), that they are forced to cancel ALL of their customers on those plans (16,000) and re-enroll the ones who want to pay the huge increases they are forced to charge - due to their poor star ratings.

Meanwhile, other carriers serving Puna, with higher star ratings, are lowering premiums and even handing out a form of income (giveback) to Punatics in their 2027 plans.  The Puna photographer, in truth, has options that would even put money in his pocket. That would be a helpful article and thread, if we lived in a better world.

The ideological misinformation from The New York Times and this thread has eclipsed the point of being political garbage and entered the realm of harming our fellow Punatics with these lies. A decent article and thread, should have been about how the photographer and 16,000+ other folks in Puna & Hawaii can change to higher rated plans, and actually even make money.

Medicare.gov - seek, and ye shall find.

Obie was right.

I hate to step back into this because I don't need the abuse but a little bit of research shows that the Tang is correct.
Just one example .

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/06/trump-me...ntage.html

The Trump administration will increase average Medicare Advantage payments by 2.48%, or more than $13 billion, in 2027, according to CMS.
That’s significantly higher than the proposed payment rate hike of 0.09% that the government floated in January.
Shares of UnitedHealth, CVS Health and Humana jumped in after-hours trading.

It's interesting that Humana's shares jumped in April and in October they dump 600,000 members.

For 2027, the biggest Medicare Advantage change is plans leaving. Humana says its 2027 exits affect about 600,000 members. Several smaller insurers, including some owned by hospital systems, are leaving the individual Medicare Advantage market. Becker's Hospital Review also counts more than 30 health systems that have dropped contracts with some Advantage insurers, which takes those hospitals out of network. CMS sets Advantage payment rates each year in its Rate Announcement, and plan rules change through separate yearly rulemaking. If your plan is leaving, you have two choices. You can pick another Advantage plan during Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7. Or you can move to Original Medicare with a Medigap plan, and a plan exit gives you a guaranteed right to buy one with no health questions.

Did you know that the state of Alaska has no advantage plans at all ?

HMSA (Hawaii Medical Service Association) holds a 3.5 out of 5 stars overall CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) Star Rating for its Medicare Advantage plans.

Star Rating Overview

• Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars (under contract H3832)
• Recent Performance Trend: HMSA’s rating shifted from 4 stars down to 3.5 stars in recent years, which affected federal quality bonus payments.

So what exactly has been lied about?

Insurers' star ratings fall, causing them to lose profits, so they pull out of markets.

Comprehensive health care coverage for seniors only doesn't make sense to me since this demographic typically demands the most services.

And this is how folk's healthcare is determined. What a screwed up system.

This isn't a question of whether or not you and the misses can go on a European junket, or buy that new fangled whatever.. this is people's frickin' health. And we all can't, en masse, agree to a single payer get the profiteers out of the way already system that takes care of everyone regardless their social economic status?

And we, en masse, think we're great? What a frickin' joke. We're sick. America is a very sick society.
