I am not sweating it for Hawai'i. I'm worried about Japan.
Even for those who don't care about Japan, what happens there will affect our economy in big ways. There is a lot of distance in miles, but social and economic distance not so much. (Having flown to Japan, I do know where it is, Paul. [

Deborah, I hear you about how it feels to have been there and now see this. I looked at those before and after shots with the slider, and they are amazing ... and grim. I never went north to Sendai. I went south to Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara, Okayama ... but the three weeks of the month that I spent in Mito gave me a good feel for that area north of Japan.
My husband was working with a crew being bussed north about a 100 miles, so in the vicinity of this reactor complex in Fukushima. He was there for 90 days (work visa allotted time). It chokes me up to see what happened there, the poor people, and it's snowing on them now.
I'm less worried about the radiation spread in the air than the fallout in the Pacific ocean. If someone wants to talk me out of that concern, feel free! I know it's a huge ocean, but there is a food chain, and it travels to some extent.
