The passport card is also an acceptable form of ID at any Federal checkpoint (TSA, courthouse, etc), well worth the extra $20. It also satisfies the "citizen/lawful presence" requirements at the State ID office, DMV, community college, prospective employer, etc. Highly recommended if you live "outside the USA" -- which is exactly how Homeland Security treats anything outside the "48 contiguous states + DC".
