Good News...to a point...
The state is adding 2 new staff members to the county Drivers License offices, one in Hilo & one in Kona, to process the new state ID's...
These staff should be able to process 7,000 IDs each per year... which sounds really good until you realize that is less than 4 per hour...
My big wonder is: Why does it take over 17 minutes each to process these new ID's?
I am sure it has a lot to do with all of the verification that is now needed.... but still... 28 IDs a day per clerk does not really sound like computer-age technology is in use...
On the plus side, at $20 per ID, these new clerks should be able to cover the costs of having them by bringing in up to $140,000/yr in ID fees per clerk...just think if they could process even more IDs per hour.... we could solve the budget problems!
