SBH: There's a new petition to request a Costco for Hilo side here: <snip>
I have heard of petitioning a government, but a business? To open a store? Can't hurt, I guess...
I would love an east side Costco as much as anyone, but do you really think the number-crunchers at Costco don't know when it's time?
Or perhaps they have already tried (old rumors of Costco at Keaau) and said screw you to their possible non-welcome by the powers-that-be...? As has been mentioned before, sales at not only the west side Costco, but many Hilo businesses would be threatened by an east side Costco. Those businesses wield some power...
And, as an aside, why don't people hate on Costco like they do Walmart? Yes, probably every statistic (bennies, pay, China-origined, etc.) is better at Costco compared to Walmart, but it's the same deal in terms of hurting established businesses, no? Still the same overseas fossil-fueled supply line supplied big box store?
