Hawaiian acres
#5
I've lived in HA since 1975. There is a contingent of people here that adhere to the philosophy of "don't build it and they won't come". Consequently any infrastructure improvements are often thwarted. Through the years people have become board members of the community association and the road committee just to sabotage any improvements. The idea is to slow development. Indeed, development has been slower than other subdivisions but it continues nonetheless. The consequence is that land prices are low and most of the homes built here are substandard and quite a few of the residents are living in poverty. I worry about the long term effects of this trend. Any community planner will tell you that a healthy community is made up of all income levels. An entirely wealthy neighborhood has problems and it's not hard to imagine that an impoverished community will have some problems too.
If you live near 8 Road you will at least be able to drive around. Up here near 1 Road we have a crisis. The pavement is falling apart and there is no plan to repair it. Hundreds of people drive on 1 Road every day along with school busses, Kupuna Vans, large trucks etc....For years the repairs have been done by a few of us volunteers who need to get to work every day. People fight the idea of mandatory road fees and very few contribute to the road committee. It's a mess.
That's my rant for the morning. Now I gotta try to get to work.
