Tropical Flower and/or plants group

I am totally naive regarding tropical plants BUT would love to listen, learn, etc. My husband is interested as well. My 20 year old autistic son will be arriving here shortly. He has almost completed his vocational training in landscaping. I think he would enjoy attending something like this to learn more.

Would novices be welcomed, or is this more for seasoned gardeners?
