Most come to Hawaii as a tourist spending to get a vacation from business. This won't hurt everyone, as many kids on the big island need free lunch and shoes already. What do you think those kids will be losing Tomk? Fifty years of astronomy here on maunakea has not helped the way the astronomy community had promised it would. Also there is no place like our (maunakea), the offers will keep coming over the years as it is still the astronomy capital of the world without tmt disneyland.
Now that some observatories will be decommissioned atop maunakea, we could see some locally used observatories go in its places? The year 2033 should provide a much clearer picture of how maunakea will be used in the future. At least the power of the people will still be able to vote on it or not? Ramming a billion dollar telescope atop maunakea in 2025, that was supposed to have a lifespan of over fifty years would not have been the pono way to extend the desecration of our maunakea, jmo.
