Thanks Obie for pointing me towards that product.
I was leery of what it was composed of due to the roof being part of our catchment system.
From their website the active ingredient is Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, a quaternary ammonium chloride.
I used to use this type of algaecide/fungicide as a surface treatment for fungal infections on my orchids in AK.
It is used as a pond algaecide and other applications.
In the correct concentrations it is classified as a food grade disinfectant.
Following your link, the Wet & Forget is a 10% concentration selling for $37/gal @ Ace.
HD has POOL TIME ALGICIDE, a 20% concentration of the same active ingredient for only $11/ gal.
The W&F may contain other ingredients that may affect how it holds to the surface it is applied to, but I'm thinking that it probably does not.
The weather forecast for the next week seems to be indicating that we're in our winter drought right now.
I think that I'll run into town and pick up a couple of gallons of the pool algaecide.
Then, disconnect my down spouts and spray the roof with it mixed per the W&F making a 2X concentration.
I can leave it on for the duration of the "drought".
Its being wetted every evening by the dew formation will activate it each night until the rains wash it off.
Then maybe a final pressure wash of the roof to clean it all off before hooking the downspouts up again.
Lately, I've been wondering about the need to clean our PV panels.
They've been up for over a year now.
They are probably getting a coating on their surfaces blocking some of the sun..
A cleaning should improve their efficiency at least a mite.
I may spray them too, or just pressure wash them later after checking for potential bad effects.
