Kelena, We USED to have a lap lane pool back in N IL that we have a solar pool mat for, one mat kept the little pool nice n warm early spring to late fall (OK warm is maybe not what Jim would agree to, but I could swim)
The Pahoa pool has the same type of solar mat pool heaters... far fewer per volume of water than we had & it does boost the temps a bit (your can tell when you stand on top of the water inlets on a sunny day) but I really think they do not have enough solar mats for an olympic pool....
Our old neighbor in lower HPP have a black lava tube pool that he had solar water heaters (like the house solar water heaters) that really did boost the pool temps
