Jackson, you are right, and KJ, we were in contact with.... I think EVERYONE on the east side that does anything with music...
Taimane mentioned during her Palace performance that she would like to do something for the people of Pahoa, going through these uncertain times..
I met her after the show, & said I do know some of the county Parks & Recs contacts, & would she like to perform at the Pahoa shelter & maybe the HUB show at night... she needed to be in Kona tonight, so I had from after the show until the noon meal at the shelter to pull this off...
We had 2 shows, one instrumental at the Pahoa shelter, thanks in great part to our very own Kelena, for daring me to ask Taimane last night AND most important, for supplying the electronics for the instruments, and being the first of many to put me in touch with Rabbi Rachael, and most esp, the wonderful friendship that helped glue these 2 insane mad dash concerts together.
And thanks to the Mayors Office, County Council member, Parks & Rec personnel for making the space happen, Salvation Army for assist with the evacuee lunch & equipment, Red Cross for assisting with the venue & Rabbi Rachel Short, who took an early morning "whadda I do?" and made it happen..
After a quick bite at Nings, we were off to the Pu`uhonua o Puna Hub for a performance with instrumental amps thanks to Kelena & mics & other musical electronic thingamabobs donated for the concert by Rick Jitchaku at Hilo Ukulele and Guitars...
Also a huge shout out MAHALO to Ikaika Marzo, who, when I asked last night if they would want Taimane to perform at Pu`uhonua o Puna, said "If she like play at the hub she can definitely come by"
AND I need to thank Taimane and Jazzy, who saw a need & would assist in any way to bring the gift of their crazy awesome talent, smiles and understanding to a population that did not expect a concert, much less Taimane....
Mahalo all!
