The State reaffirms and shall protect all rights, customarily and traditionally exercised for subsistence, cultural and religious purposes
What would happen if protestors set up lawn chairs at the entrances to Target, Safeway, and Home Depot? All are on DHHL properties. What if a group of Hawaiians wanted to practice their culture and religion in the parking lot? Or protest their lack of a homestead while DHHL caters to big box mainland corporations?
Would the citizens of Hilo respond when they couldn’t go shopping?
Would the police insure the stores remained open? Or stand around in a non-confrontational manner?
Would the needs of the many (shoppers) outweigh the needs of the few?
