They aren't wild, though they do free range. We raise bourbon red turkeys for meat. The idea was that they would forage in the orchard but they spend most of their time congregating around the house.
I don't know why there aren't wild turkeys on the East side. I see them all over Kona. I used to see them on saddle road too but not in the last few years.
Before the 2018 lava, lower leilani estates had a large flock of wild turkeys. Of course, everything has changed in lower leilani by the lava. I don’t know if the turkeys relocated elsewhere or were killed by the lava flow.
