Traffic heading to the park from Hilo was backed up at 4 p.m. today before the road going to Cooper Center in Volcano, about 2 miles from park entrance. A very slow stop and go. Pity anyone who was going to Kau or beyond -- or who lives near the Volcano golf course. This traffic obstruction might happen more and more, with our recurring eruptions.
Time to start discussing expanding this road's right shoulder for a long stretch before the park entrance. Ergo when traffic into the park is locked up, people heading south on the sole access to Kau can pass on the right.
