Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Hawaii
leilanidude - Ever considered sarcasm?
Nope, never even heard of it - do tell me more, I'm SO interested in what you have to say on the matter! (see how sarcasm actually works?) Or you could add the customary /s if you want to be sure that your comments aren't seen as just another example of hiding far-right extremism behind claims of humor and sarcasm, which is a known pattern some of y'all like to do again, and again, and again, and again, and so forth.

I'd say some were just trying to weasel out from their statements, but don't want to incur the wrath of the municipal mustelidae mob, so will turn to instead observing how some people always chicken out (in a huli-huli style for local moa of course).

Meanwhile, ACLU continues to try and uncover the role of county police across Hawaii in their dealings with ICE.

"...Some Hawaii County residents and the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii, however, want to know whether Big Island police and officers on other islands have been assisting federal agents with immigration enforcement — a subject that could come up during today’s meeting.

“In light of the recent passage of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ that allocates substantial resources into immigration enforcement along with the dramatic increase in immigration arrests in Hawaii, the ACLU of Hawaii submitted public records requests to all county police departments regarding any current agreements with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including its Homeland Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies, in their immigration enforcement efforts in the state,” the ACLU of Hawaii stated in a July 3 press release.

“It is vitally important that the community know if and how local resources are used to promote federal immigration goals,” said Emily Hillis, ACLU of Hawaii’s senior staff attorney. “Police collaboration with immigration enforcement not only diverts limited resources away from local law enforcement priorities, but it undermines public trust, ultimately making our communities less safe.”

ACLU of Hawaii spokesman Sergio Alcubilla said HPD’s reply “was just an acknowledgment and that they will respond to our request by July 25.”

In addition, numerous individuals have provided the Tribune-Herald with their written testimony asking the Police Commission to bar local police from assisting the federal government in immigration enforcement raids." (more at link)
