Considering the elevation of Pahoa is 700 feet above sea level, and neither Highway 130 or 132 lead to any ports, “cruise ship customs agent” might not be the first thing that pops into your mind. And I visited the customs office and customs agents weekly on Maui for 10 years. Never saw their official government vehicle on Haleakala either.
Well, you're not a very observant person then because that vehicle has been rolling around here for some time now. US CBP has been on island since the agencies creation in 2003. Before that, INS and US Customs had the job load and were on island as well.
Guess who's not on island permanently? ICE. Their offices are in Honolulu.
CBP has two offices on island, Kona and Hilo side.
CBP handles port of entry operations.
ICE handles interior immigration enforcement matters.
And for the fools who mistake a CPB vehicle as an ICE vehicle, there's no hope for your kind.
We had a fool here assuming a CPB vehicle meant ICE raids.
Don't mistake the two as one in the same, they aren't.
And YOU declaring you saw the customs office on Maui weekly for 10 years should know damn good and well, they aren't ICE.
