Cool - DISCUSSION! Imagine that!
First, outside of Harry's op ed in today's HTH, where did I ever say I support ALL of Harry Kim?
Secondly, saying Harry Kim is 100% Hawaiian is not a racial reference. It was meant as a reference to his convictions, his years of service - his successes and being VERY CLEAR just exactly as Rob does point out, his faults - "All very Hawaii style."
Regardless of him being Korean, he was, again right or wrong, all Hawaiian. Harry was not some imported mainland haole who came here to run roughshod. Further, he BECAME a politician, and yes, he ended his career more or less just telling people what THEY wanted to hear. And even further, regardless of Harry's successes and his failures, I think we all would be hard pressed to have had someone who was "better" yet "different" in every aspect of defining "better" and "different."
I also know Harry personally. As a woman. And have spent numerous times with him alone. I am a bit shocked at some of the potentially defamatory statements being made about him.
And regardless of all of Harry's successes and faults, his op ed sent a statement. It directly makes National Politics - 100% Hawaii related. Regardless of what you may feel about Harry, Harry said something that affects us all. And if you don't understand or agree with what Harry said in his op ed just because you don't like Harry, well, I can personally attest to knowing just exactly how that feels!
