HiloJulie - While my using Starlink may seem hypocritical and very well maybe as it relates to myself (I don't see Obie getting the same dressing down over his overwhelming "vote" for Starlink) but what I find more hypocritical is chastising someone for doing something, while they themselves do the same something equal to or worse.
What have I done that is the same or something equal to or worse, than knowingly and willingly giving my money to a far-right, anti-democratic, pedophilic billionaire?
As Durian Fiend mentioned, it's no surprise that Obie uses Starlink as he's shown he's fully on board with the conservative grievance politics merged with anti-woke tech corporatism that is modern American fascism. Same goes for Terracore, and Kane down in Wa'a Wa'a, who I imagine uses Starlink on principal alone, damn the costs, but only when it's powered by a diesel generator dangling truck nuts and running a rich mix so he can roll coal with every post - anything less would amount to being a soy libtard cuck.
If you didn't read my summary of Kane's Punaweb contributions, he's been a known semi-cogent conspiracist for at least the 17 years he's been here, so I don't expect much from him in the way of ethical, or factual, analysis in his decision making. He gets one liner doge responses because he's now indicating his brain is possibly so fried from an excess of X and possible repeat COVID infections that he has to rely on AI for anything more than one word posts. So him using Starlink/Grok/xAI is not unexpected nor noteworthy. So sad, but like for many on Punaweb, the lifetime of substance abuse and avoidance of cognitive exercise has obvious consequences.
I poke at you Julie and maybe a couple others in the hope that you may actually have a conscience in there somewhere and therefore able to exercise some degree of ethical reasoning in your decision making. It's rare in the boomers these days, but worth trying to find the few left that aren't wholly on board with the F.U. Got Mine, dragon-like wealth-hoarding, Build the Wall against the brown hordes, and Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran brain rot.
Like having to venture out to "get gas and water" after being deluged with millions of gallons of water, and why do you need gas?
We don't drink the catchment for reasons discussed here previously (anyone bothered to check if your catchment system meets National Science Foundation (NSF) P151 standards or y'all still just slurping down the lead and heavy metals leached into your tanks from the vog?) and the gas is for the sawing of the downed trees. My 20-year-old emergency tools still require dino juice, and although I'm having to use them more and more lately (like something is changing with the climate and all), the embodied energy issue argues against replacement, and I know I can buck 40ft+ 9in+ diameter ohia in the rain as needed. If anyone has tested out some of these new electrical chainsaws under Puna conditions, please let me know your findings.
As for the rest of your diatribe, I don't see Musk as being directly involved in all of that.
Assuming this isn't a pretty little lie, Musk's wealth is now largely based on the valuation of SpaceX which wholly owns Starlink. Musk also directly cut off Ukrainian access to Starlink to disrupt their offensive against Russia. So Musk very much is directly involved and uses the valuation of SpaceX/Starlink, that its customers like you contributes to, in order to influence politics and geopolitics in the U.S. and abroad. Why would you want to support this anti-democratic far-right defender of non-consensual nude image generation, including images of underage individuals, with your money?

Yeah those Reaganomics years were a mess, figured we would have learned not to elect sundowning rich white racists to be president, but here we are once again. Wonder if when those Special Forces boys show up they'll be shot at with the arms Ronnie and Ollie and the boys sold back during Iran-Contra? Talk about an ironic extension of the imperial boomerang!
But I do like me some Rhythm Nation, so maybe your other half can get Grok to make a new music video with Janet and Faulkner together so they can engage in a rap and dance battle on the Seaview lawn? That seems like a great use of time and resources right, as some of us are too busy actually following the "Keoni/Pele/Grok" advice and clearing downed trees and helping people restock supplies in the real world of Puna. ;)
