But I only posted 5 times yesterday. (see attached) How is it that you can't even reliably count 5 items, because that arrogance combined with the math "skills", is in fact laugh out loud funny.
Just making excuses to excuse the same thing that’s just presented in a different light. And one could reasonably argue that oligarch pedophiles are the ones seeing that the oligarch pedophiles are funded with our taxpayer dollars – and doing so willingly.
Well it is quite different, both because you willingly choose to give your money and the amount of money involved. The ~$4 billion awarded over the last several years to Musk's SpaceX equals out to about $25 per tax payer total, or about $5 per year. So your $480 a year is 96x more support for the pedophilic billionaire than the average tax-payer. Makes what you support quite clear.
The statement I originally made was “And it looks like the good old Section 230 may have a new crack in it.” ... And what you’re saying is not anywhere near what the judge(s) is(are) or myself for that matter are saying.
But Section 230 doesn't have a crack in it, because it wasn't challenged in the recent trials. If you, me, or any Punatic tried to sue one of the big tech platforms for the content they host, they'd run straight into the intact Section 230 protections which were upheld by the Supreme Court multiple times such as in Gonzalez v. Google LLC (2023) and Twitter, Inc. v. Taamneh
If however an aspiring Puna lawyer were to "circumvent", "route around", or otherwise "get around" section 230 protections based on design flaw and public nuisance arguments, then they might have a chance (like the thousands of MDL 3047 cases and those brought by the ~40 state AGs, including ours in Hawai'i
For any Punatic that knows a teenager that may have been harmed by social media, they may qualify to participate in the litigation. Search for "MDL 3047 social media" for more info and consider legal advice (the process is often free as lawyers get paid out of the potential settlement).
Yeah, like getting hung up on “boomer” this and “boomer” that? And I don’t think one needs to be an anarchist to just be a kind decent human being, but then again, after seeing what America has become in the last 10 years, I am rethinking just what human decency is.
Words have meaning - best to use them accurately to describe the situation. Anarchism takes human decency and puts in action by cutting through the red-tape - housing is more important than permits, providing food takes priority over regulations, ensuring access to education and knowledge is for everyone's benefit, creators and learners alike, not just the IP middle men.
Yeah. While my comment has nothing to do with any inability to understand something but try filing that original paragraph as a legal brief or motion. Good luck!
May be gobbledygook to you, but meaningful to others - signifiers and signifieds all around us. And of course this isn't a legal brief so such expectations are misplaced here - you know where you are right?
And that makes you able to understand “lawyer speak” how?
Grabbed that line before my minor edits a few minutes later... you doing that whole "tapping F5 to refresh and pouncing on the reply" thing you accused others of? As for lawyer speak, we had contracts to fulfill, and FDA requirements to meet - glad I didn't have to write any of it, but had to make sure the legalese properly described the technical and scientific realities and that we met the described obligations.
Yeah, so then, if I am a representative of ALL boomers and my generation along with many others and their collective voting record would be the same as saying that if a native Hawaiian man who robs 7-11, kills a clerk or two, then ALL native Hawaiian men are representatives of men who rob 7-11's and kill a clerk or two. So, no matter how you wish to slice it or dice it, that is EXACTLY what you’re saying.
You inserting the word ALL is again just showing your lack of understanding and nuance. Boomers are a group of people, defined by birthdate, that have both individual differences and documented historical trends, such as the outcomes of their collective voting record. As the largest demographic in a representative democracy they have a disproportionate impact on the state of the world, for good and bad. As a wiser older generation once said "With great power comes great responsibility."
Yak: Baby steps can be yet one more renewable project in solar, wind, geothermal, etc, not sipping fossil fuels instead of doing shots by the barrel and claiming you don't really drink anymore.
Back with the bottom of the bucket intellect of me being drunk again! Works so well for ya Yak!
But that's not what I'm saying at all (Freud would have a field day here)... I'm saying Hawai'i, and the U.S. in general, is addicted to fossil fuels, much like an alcoholic, and that switching to LNG is just like sipping whisky instead of pounding shots, or drinking lite beer and saying that it's not really drinking. Sobriety requires quitting and indulging in such self-deluding rationalizations.
As for solar, wind, geothermal, etc., this drunk old lady says bring it on baby! But, and again, that is not going to happen overnight. So, if, over the last 20 –30 years, we had gone from burning bunker oil to say LNG, while simultaneously developing wind, solar and geothermal, instead of the equivalent of an orangutang beating his “drill baby drill” chest that has, to this day, kept wind, solar and geothermal in the equivalent “dark ages” think how much better we all would be.
But LNG is largely a side product of oil exploration, so your support for LNG is supporting fracking and "drill baby drill", as that's where all the LNG is coming from and why it's so cheap. How about instead, with solar dropping 90%+ in cost over the past 10+years, and a tropical state with 270+ sunny days a year and wind and geothermal resources, we just follow the Kauai Coop's lead and skip the LNG bridge to nowhere.
If your occupation is one that is paid for by the taxpayer, then, one can say, you’re sucking the taxpayer’s teat. Right? But then, one could argue; I’m not WILLINGLY paying you. Right?
Sure - you elected your political representatives and they decided to pay for services with all of our tax money. Doing the math, each Hawai'i tax payer provided about 3 cents a year to my income, so thanks, hopefully the services provided are worth it. If not, you can always elect someone else or do the "All Taxation is Theft" thing and go all libertarian / minarchist / ancap, and support ending all taxes and moving to toll roads and personal contracts for all services. There's some here on Punaweb that are likely on board.
Or you could build an unpermitted cabin by a pond and watch the ants fight and the peas grow and journal about your experiences largely free from monetary obligations. Sounds pretty transcendental to me.
Well, being clear, you’re not claiming anything. You’re saying that I am all those things on your list.
But again, I'm not saying that. Like Rob, I'm asking if any of those apply as an explanation. You seem fixated on misinterpreting.
Remind me again who started a thread complaining about how Rob moderates PunaWeb.
I give up, who? (and you're sure you've read it and understood it, right?)
Oh, I know that. I was just demonstrating your inherent hypocrisy, of which you’re clearly blind to. Nonetheless, emoji away! I wish I could have filed legal briefs and motions with emojis! That poop emoji would have been extensively used!
But I never complained about long posts, so how I am being hypocritical? (you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means...) But here, I'll help you to accentuate your visual communication style - ?
OK, I’ll capitulate that you did not say ALL. Just “most.” Or as you stated above with the “being a representative of” everyone in “my generation.”
Hey, honesty and nuance, neat! Correct, that how representatives work, big rich tapestry to consider both the individual details and the overall collection.
True that! But think of the carbon belching that everyone on SNAP would create. I mean, all those plastic cards have to be made. The energy expended in increased computers to run it all. And since everyone is on SNAP, no one would be able to afford lesser carbon belching vehicles, or EV’s or hybrids, so Puna would be smogged down with everyone driving 1970’s big block V8’s that at best get 12 MPG. Damnit, I missed such a golden opportunity!
I'm sure the one EBT card is a reduction compared to the amount of plastic cards in your wallet. And we could power all that computation with renewables if people we're not so hung up on supporting fossil fuels at all costs. Given most living-on-the-land punatics don't have any motor vehicle at all and rely on bikes and hitchiking to get around, they are clearly doing more than their share environmentally. Could always given them a ride in the EV and they they'd be on quite the golden path.
And of course, being as irritating as possible is a God given right. Right?
You may find it irritating, some of us found it interesting in that maximalist Banksy or Keith Haring style. Punaweb is a community, it not just about you, and only Rob and the Mod set the rules.
"Yet, (most) boomers are to blame for everything wrong? Again.
Mostly it comes down to the support for the conservative administrations, Reagan in particularly, that set us on this current trajectory. So yes, the voting majority of boomers are to blame, welcome to the consequences of representative democracy. If the majority (which until recently has been mostly boomers) stops choosing poorly we might not have ketchup as a school lunch vegetable, or millions imprisoned for smoking weed, or the repeated bombing and starving of brown kids around the world, or ICE pulling immigrant teachers out of their Maui abodes, or insufficient funding for USGS science and UH education and social supports like SNAP, or the blocking of the transition to using the renewable energy sources all around us in Hawai'i while there is still time.
At the Kona protest, quite a few signs that said EXACTLY that. I even saw one lady with a professionally printed shirt that had that exact slogan!
Cool - hopefully there's enough momentum so people can work together to put the slogans into practice.
