Punatang - Remember, stay focused on the Billionaires dividing us.
So that means we repeatedly endorse them on Punaweb and vote for them on our mail-in ballots and give them a pass for all their Aloha-lacking (that Aquinas fellow may even say unChristian-like) behaviors, or something else? Trying to be the change, but behavior being modeled makes your suggestion murky and unclear, despite all the recent sunshine.
Honor the little gal that's trying to help herself. We can all do better. We must.
While I don't know any multi-state Doordashing Grannies, I do know someone who did some dashing as a side hustle in Hawai'i last year, and it being the season, we were just discussing the tax implications involved.
Some of the highlights were that Doordashers are independent contractors, not employees, so in Hawai'i you need to register for a GET license, file estimated taxes during the year, and fill out a Schedule C at the end (fun!). The 1099 provided just gives a total income, but you have to track tips separately, along with mileage during deliveries, so you can file those items appropriately. The "No Tax on Tips" is, of course, a misnomer and inaccurate, as while you get a Federal Income tax break on up to $25K tips (IIRC), you still pay the much larger Self-Employment tax on all your income, including tips (the olds want their Social Security and Medicare money, regardless of any possible complaints about redistribution in the past).
Overall, they said it helped fill in some gaps with their other work last year, the "No Tax on Tips" did very little to improve their income, and there is no reason to dash currently given the high gas prices which makes it unprofitable (apply those "I Did That" stickers as needed). Obviously, not a CPA, gather your own info, etc, but if you are in a position to use these sorts of gig delivery services, remember that for many it's a necessary side hustle that provides marginal income so set reasonable expectations and tip in person when possible.
