What about recently discovered haolefied first hand eye witness testimony? Corroborated by Native Hawaiian accounts? Human history, almost everywhere you go is a struggle and a tragedy. Most of us would probably have to admit even bad governance in the present day is an improvement over back stabbing and slaughter.
On Dec. 12, 1794 near what is now Pearl Harbor, Kalanikūpule and his British allies secured a complete victory. Kāʻeo and his army were slaughtered.
“The number of the slain was beyond conception,” Lamport said.
That’s consistent with Hawaiian accounts, which recall heaps of bodies strewn across the landscape.
But two weeks later, Kalanikūpule turned on the British, Lamport wrote.
