My suggestion would be to avoid wood in as many ways a possible. Redwood especially is a very soft wood.
A friend of mine some years back kept getting compliments from locals on her Koa plank flooring. It was beautiful. It was also vinyl. Looked good enough to fool the locals and was basically zero maintenance.
