When I was eight years old I was leaning against the hot furnace during the winter and my pants got on fire. My Mom grabbed me away and I started crying, "Why don't we live somewhere where it's always summer!" (Like I knew there was such a place!) Twenty years later I defected from Hungary and while living in NYC I started exploring the "always summer" places. After checking out Florida and the Caribbean and not particularly liking them, there was nothing else left but Hawaii. It was love at first sight, as soon as I stepped off the plane. I visited all the islands the next four years and I was convinced the Big Island was my new home. I quit my job and moved here three months later. (That was almost 20 years ago.)
(I still remember when I told the President of the Fortune 500 company I worked for that I was moving to Hawaii, he said "You are moving back to your office!" I told him I was serious and he said "Nobody quits a job like this." I just handed him my resignation letter.)
