we install the meter between the main meter that gets read... and the end user in our case at the individual slip... in yours I imagine you would put in inline at the rental.
at the end of the cycle when we get the bill we read the individual meters ourselves and figure out how much of the bill they owe , we ad it to the next months rent (the users share of the base, plus the kilowatts they used as read from the meter)
no need to bring in other lines or electrical service
I know some good electrical contractors that have worked for me out here.. it should not be more than an hour or two to have it professionally installed (hard wire)
for a little more $$$ (about 250) you can get "clip on meters" no "intrusive" wiring needed, these units report to you computer showing current cumulative usage, the sensor placed or taped on or near the conductor wire carrying the load to your rental
