well, we also received almost silly quotes for chain link so did it ourselves and have helped/taught friends to do it also. i did remove our chain link in front to do rock walls and i have to say, the fence had plenty of life left in it and it was about 20 years old at the time...(i used the posts/link for animal enclosures). the secret is to IMMEDIATELY put the caps on the posts so they dont fill up with water.... another trick is to get black spray paint and paint the posts and rails... you will be amazed that the fense disappears when you do this... it is suddenly not obnoxious chainlink...
