Council swearing in ceremony
#1
I attended the Council swearing in ceremony today in Hilo. I was a very nice event. Sherry Bracken was M.C. and it opened with a lovely keiki chant.

Fred Blas looked real sharp and excited as did Brittany Smart. I got to chat with Pete Hoffman, Dominic Yagong, Brenda Ford, Fred Blas, Brittany Smart, J Yosimoto and Donald Ikeda.

Our new Council Chairman did an enthusiastic job of welcoming the incoming council as a team to work with Mayor Kenoi. It was a good speech and I take Dominic's words as heartfelt. There is a general sense of excitement over the potential and possibilities in dealing with the issues in front of us as a county.

A really entertaining Keynote Speech was delivered by Derek Kurisu. Mr. Kurisu is the founder of Mountain Apple brand which is a local company that delivers 280 food products all of which are produced in Hawaii. Small local companies that cannot much compete on their own are working together, successfully, for the local economy. It was a good speech.

No sign of Guy Enriques. Emily Naeole arrived late and left early. I got the sense that she did not want to schmooze. I do admire her coming to the event and it spoke louder than Guy Enriques absence.

So the new council begins....
Assume the best and ask questions.
